When several of my family members recommended The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, I wasn’t sure it would be my kind of book. About two and a half years ago, I started reading more consistently again, and while I was curious about this one, I didn’t immediately think it was a fit for me.

But I’m so glad I gave it a chance.

⭐ First Impressions

I’ll be honest—it took me a little while to get into the story. That’s not always a bad thing, though; some books take a little time to open up before they really pull you in. And once I reached that point, I found myself deeply invested.

⭐ What It’s About

The novel follows Nora Seed, a woman caught between life and death who finds herself in a magical library. Each book in this library represents a different version of her life—choices she could have made, paths she didn’t take. Through these alternate realities, Nora explores what it means to live a life of meaning and fulfillment.

⭐ My Takeaway

What I loved most was how thought-provoking it was. It’s not just about regret and “what ifs,” but about finding peace in the choices we do make. By the end, I was glad I had stuck with it, and I can see why so many people recommended it.

⭐ Who I’d Recommend It To

If you enjoy books that blend philosophy with a heartfelt story, this one is worth your time. It’s a reflective, hopeful read that will likely leave you thinking about your own “midnight library.”
