My Honest Review
I went into When in Rome expecting something very cliché and maybe a little corny. It definitely leans into familiar rom-com territory—but what surprised me is how well it handles those tropes. Nothing felt cringey or overdone in a way that pulled me out of the story. Instead, it felt intentional and easy to settle into.
This ended up being one of those books I didn’t have to work to read. It flows easily, the pacing is steady, and it never asks too much of you mentally. That’s not a negative—it’s actually what made it such an enjoyable experience. It felt like a true rom-com in book form: comforting, predictable in structure, but still emotionally engaging.
What stood out to me most was that, underneath the light tone, there are real-life elements woven in. The book touches on things like parental loss, complicated family relationships, career burnout, and shifting priorities as you get older. None of these themes take over the story, but they add enough depth to make the characters feel grounded instead of living in a perfect, unrealistic world.
Emotionally, I wouldn’t say this book is heavy—but I did feel connected while reading. It’s the kind of story where you care about the characters without feeling overwhelmed by them.

Final Thoughts
This isn’t the best book ever written—and it doesn’t try to be. But as a romance, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and it does it well. It’s easy, enjoyable, and genuinely comforting to read.
For me, it was enough to add the rest of the series to my TBR, which says a lot.
If you’re heading on a plane, going on vacation, or just want something that feels good to read without overthinking it—this is a solid choice.
